AUSTRIA

Innsbruck, AUT June 13-17, 2018 - Nestled in the valley amongst the towering Alps, Austria’s biggest city, Innsbruck, kicked off the European legs of the Crankworx World Tour. In it’s second year, momentum grew for this event with Crankworx, tourism, volunteers, and fans all working together to put innsbruck on the map as summer sport destination alongside their winter sport success.

Jill competed in the Downhill and Pumptrack events to bring home a Silver and Gold medal, and had this to say…..

JILL KINTNER….. 2nd - DOWNHILL

“This Austrian Downhill track was really fun. It had been taped pretty natural through the trees and off-cambers, so the roots came to life, and the holes were growing by the minute. Overall, the line rode in really well, and the track had good flow, but it took some time to get the rhythm of it. Every time I race here I am so grateful for the weather to stay dry, because this would be a beast of a track in the wet. Anyway, I had a great time, felt confident, and laid down a good run to finish 2nd in a World-Class field. Racing without a qualifying run takes getting used to , but I am stoked to get such a good result with solid points, and be healthy for the next stop in France!!.”

JILL KINTNER….. 1st - PUMPTRACK

“This course was the same as last year; it actually has more turns and a creative layout compared to the other courses, which is surprising that times are always so close. It came down to the final lap, per usual, and my goal was to be my best in finals, so I was happy to handle the pressure and redeem myself after last year. It took so much intensity all day to stay focused all the way to the last roller of the last run. Pumptrack is simple, but complex, and mostly about skill, so to get another win was fantastic.”

FRANCE

Les Gets, France - June 20-24, 2018

From Austria, everyone made the 8hr drive over to the Portes du Soleil to visit the village of Les Gets in France for the third stop of the Crankworx World Tour.

Known for it’s iconic Downhill, and access to Europe’s most connected riding location, this venue draws in mountain bikers of all abilities to one spot.

Jill Kintner competed Pumptrack, Mt Chery Downhill, and slalom, but opted out of the Les Gets DH after some scheduling conflicts. With a narrow silver medal in both Pumptrack and slalom, she was able to finish strong with a week with a win on Sunday to take a giant lead in the overall title.

JILL KINTNER….. 2nd - PUMPTRACK

“France had another tight pumptrack battle in the finals with a new face from the French Bmx world, Mathilda. The course was super basic with only one turn and not much to separate anyone so the laps had to be perfect. I had a good run, but she rode her best in front of her home crowd. All I really learned from this was that maybe just keeping my wheels on the ground would be faster? Either way, I will find a way to keep elevating my game for Whistler and will be ready for the finale in front of my home crowd- ish.”

JILL KINTNER….. 2nd - SLALOM

“The slalom course turned out pretty good with a full-speed man made section up top, then tricky loose off camber grass turns down below. Most of the world cup downhill girls were there, and loving the pure speed and skill of it, so it brought out some really good competition. I knew it was going to be a showdown with Rachel Atherton and I in the final, so I was ready to throw down. I had maybe my best run ever in the final first run, nearly perfect with a 0.7 sec lead. It was magical:), then in the second run, I had a good run going, but Rachel was really aggressive in the flat corners with her foot out and flawless, and I pushed too hard into a mistake on the final grass turn. I lost the front end and didn’t really know where the timing beam was, so that was it. Still, I feel really good about the way I rode, and loved every moment of it.”

“I skipped the main downhill on Saturday because the schedule got shuffled and was too hectic for me. Instead I tried to focus on one bike at a time, and my strategy paid off to be in contention for the win in everything. Sundays DH was meant to be a version of “Air DH” but in true french style, it was pretty technical and rooty mixed into a couple bike park sections and fast grass off-camber turns. It was awesome to take a Downhill win to close out the week.“
